Academic Year 2017 – 2018

On October 14, 2017, the International College ‘San Lorenzo da Brindisi’ officially opened a new year of fraternal life. The General Minister of the Order, Br. Mauro Jöhri, presided at the celebration of the Eucharist, welcoming the brothers who begin their presence and service at the College: Br. Francesco Neri, Rector, and Br. Robert Bernat, infirmarian. Also presented were brothers already at the College but taking up a new role: Br. Kilian Ngitir, Spiritual Director, and Br. Gianfranco Tinello, Liturgy Director. Finally, thanks were given to Br. Ferderico Albini as he finishes his ten years of service as infirmarian. The Eucharist was followed by a festive supper, enriched by the presence of many guests.

This academic year the College is made up of twenty friars in the permanent community, of which four are new, and seventy-three students, of which thirty-three are new. The student friars come from Africa (19), Latin America (9), Asia (32), Australia (1), and Europe (13). They are studying in a variety of areas: Spiritual Theology (22), Canon Law (11), Islamic Studies (1), Philosophy (3), Liturgy (4), Catechetics (2), Missiology (1), Biblical Sciences (3), Church History (4), Biblical Theology (3), Theology of the Family (4), Theology of Consecrated Life (2), Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology (4), Patristic Theology (2), Pastoral Theology (2). The numbers indicate a certain stability of presence in the College, although they are not going up.

This academic year the College is getting ready for the fiftieth anniversary of its current location, which was inaugurated on July 8, 1968. This will be a fine occasion to plan for and encourage anew the mission of the College in service to the work of the Capuchin Order in the formation of its friars.
