A Part of the Province of Lombardy
By Decree of the General Minister, Br. Roberto Genuin (Prot. No. 00027/26, dated January 30, 2026), the Custody of the Capuchin Friars Minor of Italian Switzerland, a circumscription dependent on the Province of St. Charles in Lombardy, was suppressed on February 1, 2026, and the related fraternities and religious houses were incorporated into the Province of St. Charles in Lombardy, as were all the religious belonging to the Custody.
The Custody of Italian Switzerland was established by decree of General Minister Br. Mauro Jöhri, on March 8, 2018 (Prot. No. 00253/18) as part of a reorganization of the circumscriptions in this area of Europe due to the rapid and inexorable decline in vocations. With the imminent unification of the Provinces of Lombardy, Genoa, and Piedmont (scheduled for March 4, 2026), after consulting with the parties concerned and in agreement with the General Council, the General Minister deemed it appropriate for the Custody to be fully integrated into the nascent Province.
