Over the past three years, we have celebrated the “Franciscan Centenaries: A Centenary Divided Into Several Centenaries,” a special occasion for the entire Franciscan family as we commemorated the 800th anniversary of some important events in the last years of St. Francis’ life. These events were Christmas in Greccio (1223-2023), the drafting of the Regula Bullata (1223-2023), the gift of the stigmata (1224-2024), and this year, the composition of the Canticle of the Creatures (1225-2025).
Following this series of celebrations, the Franciscan family is preparing to commemorate the eighth centenary of St. Francis’ death in 2026. To this end, the Franciscan Family Commission has unveiled the official logo that will accompany the various activities and celebrations taking place throughout the centenary commemoration.
The logo, designed by the Tuscan province of the Friars Minor, thus reveals its depth and meaning:
The logo was created to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the passing of St. Francis of Assisi. The use of the word “Franciscus” recalls the universal and timeless dimension of the saint, evoking his authenticity and his ever-relevant message.
The simple yet bold typeface reflects Francesco’s personality: humble, genuine, and deeply
committed to his ideals.
The colors of the earth—warm, natural, understated—refer to Francis’ connection with nature, poverty, and everyday life, emphasizing his spirit of brotherhood with creation and with every living being.
In addition to the presentation of the logo, we would also like to mention the beginning of the Centenary of the death of St. Francis on January 10, 2026, with a celebration in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels in Assisi. This year, various events and celebrations are planned around the world and in Assisi, such as the extended public display of the mortal remains of St. Francis from February 22 to March 22, 2026, in the Basilica where they have rested for almost 800 years.
