General Curia, ROME — In a letter addressed to all the brothers on the African continent, General Minister Br. Roberto Genuin has convoked a Pan-African meeting. The event, which marks a milestone for the Order in Africa, and will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 1 to 6, 2027.
The convocation brings to life a concept already expressed by the General Minister at the beginning of this current six-year term (cf. Initial Letter of the Sexennium – No. 40), paying particular attention to the animation of the African circumscriptions. With this letter, he confirmed that the phase of planning with the African General Councilors and the preparatory committee has reached such a level that allows the dates and location to be made official.
This will not only be a meeting concerned with organization but aims to be an event of true communion, with a spirit of closeness and willingness to share; the entire General Council will come to participate.
The hope is that this meeting in Addis Ababa will not only help the Capuchins on their journey in this “great and diverse continent,” but will also be an occasion of inspiration for the animation of the charism in all other parts of the world where the Order is present.
The General Minister concluded his letter by encouraging everyone to work together with confidence and to feel fully involved, invoking the protection of the Blessed Virgin and Saints Francis and Clare for the success of the initiative.
Below is the letter of invitation. We eagerly await further preparations for this event.
