Meeting of CCH JPIC Coordinators in Bogotá, Colombia

From July 9 to 11, the Capuchin friars of Spanish-speaking America gathered to reflect on and revitalize their ministry of Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation.

Bogotá, COLOMBIA – From July 9 to 11, the Capuchin friary of La Concepción in Bogotá, Colombia hosted a meeting of Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Coordinators of the Spanish-American Capuchin Conference (CCH).

Presence and Fraternal Support

The meeting featured the valuable participation of Br. Scaria Kalloor, the Order’s JPIC director, who guided the participants through the delicate task of revitalizing the objectives and mission of this ministry within the CCH. Br. Harold Arlés Pérez Hernández, General Councilor, and Br. Gustavo Chávez Basurto, Executive Secretary of the CCH, also expressed their solidarity and support for this important opportunity for reflection and discernment. The meeting was further enriched by the presence and guidance of Br. Marcelo Toyans, Secretary of JPIC for the Brazilian Conference (CCB).

Ten friars took part in the event, representing the provinces of Peru, Colombia, and Argentina, as well as the custodies of Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and Guatemala-Honduras-El Salvador and the Provincial Delegation of Bolivia.

Work, Prayer, and Discernment

During these days of intense work, prayer, and fraternity, the friars reflected on the current state of the JPIC office within the CCH. They were able to uncover new ways of continuing to strengthen and foster this important dimension of Capuchin Franciscan spirituality in the twenty-one countries that make up the Conference.

We ask the Lord, through the intercession of Saint Francis of Assisi, to enlighten and strengthen these brothers in their service, so that they may continue to inspire us to live out Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation with greater commitment—an active and realistic expression of our faith and our Capuchin Franciscan charism.
