Within the overall initiative for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Capuchin Reform, there is included over the next four years, the celebration of the World Day of Capuchin Missions; these will occur in October of each year. For the sake of continuity and consistency, the following focuses have been proposed as themes for the coming years:
2025 – We are all considered missionaries (Const. 176:1).
2026 – St. Francis renewed the missionary spirit (Const. 175:3).
2027 – We are called where the new evangelization is urgently needed (Const. 178:1).
2028 – We do not leave the Lord’s missionary command unheeded (Const. 176:4).
The idea is that each circumscription (or even each fraternity) can choose the most suitable Sunday, weekend or day during the missionary month of October to celebrate Capuchin Missions Day. On this occasion we are invited to pray for our missions, reflect on our missionary vocation and promote some solidarity initiative in favor of Capuchin missions. Each fraternity is called to organize its activities creatively. The General Secretariat for Evangelization and the Missions has made available to all the brothers, on the Order’s website, some materials and proposals that can be used in the fraternities, either by offering directions for the celebration of a Capuchin Mission Day or by bringing suggestions for activities to promote our missions. The materials are available in Italian, English, Portuguese, French and Spanish.
It would be very appropriate to also involve lay people, who enthusiastically share our charism, to organize activities together with them in parishes or convent churches.
We wish everyone a happy Capuchin Missions Day 2025, at the beginning of this journey that will lead us to the celebration of the 500th anniversary of our Capuchin Reform, “enlightening our minds and inflaming our hearts” with the same missionary ardor that animated St. Francis of Assisi. If you would like to share some activities, or ask for more information, please refer to General Secretary for Evangelization and Missions Br. Mariosvaldo Florentino ([email protected]).
