DROHICZYN, Poland— Br. Antoni Pacyfik Dydycz OFMCap, our confrere and bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Drohiczyn, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 87.
He was born on August 24, 1938, in Serpelice, Poland. He took his first vows in the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin – Province of Warsaw in 1955 and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1963, in Łomża. He was guardian, provincial of the Province of Warsaw from 1976 to 1982, and then general definitor of the Order from 1982 to 1994. Among other things, he was involved in assisting religious in socialist countries and in the renewal of religious life in those regions.
In 1994, Pope John Paul II appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Drohiczyn. As a diocesan pastor, he was known, among other things, for creating new parishes, reorganizing diocesan structures, building and renovating churches, as well as for his ecumenical and social commitment and for his care of cultural heritage. He was the author of over 150 publications. May the Lord grant him eternal rest and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
