Rome, ITALY — We are experiencing a real revolution with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI). We Franciscans are also called to understand it and use as a tool for our mission of evangelization. Pope Leo, in the few months of his current pontificate, has repeatedly drawn attention to this issue. He states that AI is “undoubtedly an exceptional product of human genius,” but emphasizes that “there is an urgent need for serious reflection on its intrinsic ethical dimension and its responsible use.”
On behalf of the General Ministers of the Friars Minor, Friars Minor Conventual, Friars Minor Capuchin, and TOR, the General Secretaries for Evangelization and Missions are organizing an online course on “Artificial Intelligence and Evangelization,” which will be held on November 18, 19 and 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Rome time), with simultaneous translation in Italian, English, Spanish, French, and Polish.
Schedule:
– November 18: Prof. Jesús Alberto Solano Gómez (ZTH Zurich), AI expert: “What is Artificial Intelligence?”
– November 19: Br. Paolo Benanti, TOR: “The Ethical Issues of AI”
– November 20: Br. Giulio Cesareo, OFMConv: “The Use of AI in Evangelization”
Each day will include time for questions and further discussion.
