The General Ministers and the President of the IFC-TOR issued a message inviting the entire Franciscan community to a joint action of prayer. The appeal comes in the wake of the celebration for the 800th anniversary of the composition of St. Francis’ Canticle of the Creatures and was prepared for the occasion of COP-30 (United Nations Conference of the Parties on Climate Change), which will be held in Belém, Brazil, from Nov. 10-21, 2025.
In addition, the Franciscan Family will be represented in a special event in Belém on November 14 to continue to share with everyone the message of the Canticle: to live the vocation as stewards of creation as an “essential” aspect of Christian life in order to “contribute to the growth of peace and the renewal of hope” with the hope that “ecological conversion,” frequently called for by Pope Francis, will be increasingly affirmed. The initiative, promoted by Franciscans International, also seeks to urge world leaders to take “concrete action” for a sustainable future.
