New Capuchin Bishop

The Holy Father has appointed Br. Pedro Cesário Palma, currently parish priest of the Parish of São Francisco de Assis in the Diocese of Umuarama, in the State of Paraná, as Bishop of Jardim (Brazil).

Br. Pedro Cesário Palma was born on August 15, 1961, in Pinhalão, in the Diocese of Jacarezinho, in the state of Paraná. He studied philosophy at the Instituto dos Capuchinhos in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, and theology at the Instituto Teológico de Santa Catarina (ITESC) in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. He then continued his formation by studying parapsychology and obtaining a licentiate in fundamental theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.  He was ordained a priest on February 22, 1992. He has held the following positions: Professor of Philosophy and Theology (1994-2002); Director of Postulants (1995-1999); Secretary of Initial Formation and Pastoral Ministry (1996-2002); Second Provincial Definitor (1999-2002); Director of Aspirants (2000); Director of Post-Novices (2001); Community Guardian (2006-2007); Parish Vicar (2006-2011); Provincial Definitor and Secretary for Pastoral and Apostolic Life (2008-2011); Parish Priest (2012-2017); Provincial Vicar and Secretary for Ongoing Formation (2014-2017); Secretary of the Conference of Capuchins in Brazil (2017-2018); Provincial Minister of the Province of Paraná and Santa Catarina (2017-2023).
