Meeting with the animators who study the Bible (28 & 29th September 2015)

Our Brothers. Maurizio Guidi, Víctor Herrero, Yunus Demirci, along with Sergio Del Morro, Jaime Rey and Charles Alphonse came together to discuss and evaluate about the Formators and Ongoing formation courses we have done for the past two years. We started with a personal question about why we have chosen this way of life and specifically what motivated us to specialise in Bible, archeology, theology and psychology. The heart level sharing brought us together and helped us to understand one another before getting into discussion about the theme of animation & formation.

One of the main points emerged in this discussion was the 'lack of Centrality of the Gospels in our Formative Initiatives.' The need was felt to inspire our brothers to focus their attention more on the centrality of the Gospels, that is on the Word of God and updating of the knowledge about the Bible and its interpretation today. They also pointed to the reality that many of our friars have one sided understanding about the Bible and have not updated their knowledge. It results in the shallow interpretation of the biblical texts and failure to apply it to the concrete realities of life.

They also promised their collaboration to do something to motivate our friars to be Gospel centered and develop interest in the study of the Biblical texts and its interpretation today.

While appreciating the Formative courses conducted by the General Secretariat for Formation they also gave suggestions to improve further its quality based on the Gospel values. We also identified few animators from around the world to join the team of animators for the future ongoing formation programmes.

We will soon publish a details schedule about our next year's (2016) Formators & ongoing formation courses so that you could encourage further participation. These questions are asked time and again to our participants:
How do you evaluate your knowledge about the Bible? Which is the last book or article you read about biblical interpretation & theology today and when was it?
