Inspired by the letter from the Franciscan General Ministers, they staged a play with the meaningful title \u201cSeed of Eternal Life: The Final Moments of the Life of Francis of Assisi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative was entirely led by the youth of the Albanian mission. A group of 20 young people, working entirely as volunteers, stepped up, eager to experience faith firsthand and, through art, help others do the same. These young men and women are neither actors nor professional singers, but simply believers moved by a single great desire in their hearts: to offer the community an occasion of poignant meditation and prayer. The goal was not the performance for its own sake, but an understanding of the extraordinary legacy that the Poverello left us, not only through his manner of living, but above all through the way he concluded his earthly life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The Journey Toward &#8220;Sister Death&#8221;: The Eight Scenes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The performance unfolded across eight scenes, interspersed with evocative songs directly inspired by Francis\u2019s writings, which struck a deep chord with the audience. It all begins with a moment of great tenderness: the encounter with Lady Jacoba of Settesoli. The Roman noblewoman arrives bearing everything Francis desires for his final moments, including that dessert so dear to him, a sign of a friendship that transcends time and touches the soul.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the second scene, the contrast between human and divine logic comes to the fore. Francis, now consumed by illness, asks to sing and praise the Lord. Brother Elias is angered: \u201cHow can you sing while your body is wasting away?\u201d he asks, scandalized. But for Francis, music and song are not a distraction, but rather the consolation that dispels all fear of the approaching darkness. Francis wants to face reality head-on. He meets with the doctor and demands the unvarnished truth from him, without compromise. Only by knowing the \u201cend of the journey\u201d can the Saint prepare himself to welcome \u201cSister Death\u201d with all his heart. While the friars are now convinced that the bishop of Assisi\u2019s room will be the place of his passing, Francis surprises everyone. With a final gasp of will, he asks to be taken back to where it all began, to the heart of his vocation: the Portiuncula. During the descent toward the plain, one of the most moving moments occurs. Francis, though blind, asks to stop. Facing his hometown, he blesses Assisi, its inhabitants, and Brother Leo, leaving a testament of universal love.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon arriving at the Portiuncula, Francis asks to be stripped and laid naked on the bare ground, remaining faithful to his beloved Holy Poverty until his last breath. In a poignant parallel to the Last Supper, the Saint blessed the bread and listened to the reading of the Gospel. Among the friars, the echo of the washing of the feet resounded: \u201cThis is my love for you; love one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The seventh scene gives voice to Clare\u2019s deep longing to see Francis again; a friar is summoned from the monastery so that this spiritual bond may be fulfilled during the darkest hour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Surrounded by his brothers, after welcoming Sister Death, Francis ascends to heaven. In the final scene, the friars carry Francis\u2019s lifeless body to San Damiano. There, Clare\u2014making an exceptional departure from the cloister along with her sisters\u2014is finally able to bid farewell to her spiritual father and kiss those wounds of the sacred stigmata that made him so like Christ.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The performance concludes beautifully at the tomb of Francis. A holy place, the beating heart of the Franciscan charism, which speaks not of death but of resurrection. Before that tomb, we do not mourn an end, but breathe in new life, which becomes an eternal song of <em>Alleluia<\/em>.
