Celebration by the National Franciscan Family <\/span><\/b>on Mount Sant’Anna<\/b><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

On Sunday, May 24, the three-day-long national celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis came to a close on Mount St. Anne in Poland. Among those in attendance were the general ministers of the three Franciscan Orders, who had traveled from Rome, the provincial ministers of the ten Polish Franciscan provinces and their confreres, as well as members of the Secular Franciscan Order.<\/p>\n

On the first day, Friday, May 22, the spiritual sons and daughters of St. Francis celebrated the Transitus<\/em> service outdoors, in memory of their Father\u2019s passing from earth to heaven.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, May 23, a special guest arrived at Mount St. Anne: Cardinal Grzegorz Ry\u015b of Krak\u00f3w, who gave a lecture based on the Testament of St. Francis and delivered the homily during the Holy Mass, which he also presided over.<\/p>\n

Those attending the celebration also met with the three general ministers, who had come from Rome: Br. Massimo Fusarelli, OFM; Br. Carlos Alberto Trovarelli, OFMConv; and Br. Roberto Genuin, OFMCap.<\/p>\n

Br. Massimo Fusarelli drew attention to the guidance provided by the Order\u2019s founder: \u201cFrancis lived in an era of change. He navigated it creatively, not passively, by blazing new trails. Through his encounters with all those in need, he built a fraternal community. I believe this helps us navigate the current times of conflict and difficulty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Br. Roberto Genuin emphasized the timeless significance of the principles preached by St. Francis: \u201cPeople, regardless of the times, have the same needs. Francis discovered God among the lepers. I believe that even in today\u2019s world, everyone needs to be listened to and welcomed.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Br. Carlos Alberto Trovarelli, even in a world dominated by consumerism, there is room for those who wish to follow in the footsteps of St. Francis: \u201cOne need only look at the history of our Order, especially our branch. There have been many times when we faced dramatic situations regarding vocations and the living out of religious life.\u201d At the same time, Br. Carlos recalled that Christ promised St. Francis that his Order would endure until the end of the world.<\/p>\n

On Saturday afternoon, representatives of the Franciscan Family had a choice of activities organized for them: taking a guided tour of the Shrine, attending lectures on various topics, or participating in panel discussions and small group discussions. In the evening, they attended a performance about St. Francis.<\/p>\n

The celebrations marking the 800th anniversary of the death of St. Francis of Assisi in Poland concluded on Sunday, May 24, with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Andrzej Czaja of the Diocese of Opole, in whose territory the Shrine of St. Anne is located.<\/p>\n

There are ten Franciscan religious provinces in Poland (5 OFM provinces, 3 OFMConv provinces, and 2 OFMCap provinces), with a total of approximately 2,700 religious serving both within the country and abroad. The presence of hundreds of friars in habits of various colors, together with that of the laity, is the best proof of the importance and relevance of the legacy left to us by our patron and founder.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
