Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of São Paulo (Brazil)
Vatican, December 16, 2020. The Holy Father has appointed the Rev. Fr. Carlos Silva, O.F.M. Cap., Auxiliary Bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of São Paulo (Brazil), assigning him to the titular See of Summula. He has currently been a General Councilor of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor in Rome.
Br. Carlos Silva, O.F.M. Cap. was born on December 5, 1962 in Andradina, Diocese of Araçatuba, in the state of São Paulo. He completed his studies in philosophy at the Seminário Seráfico São Fidélis in Piracicaba, São Paulo and theology at the Pontíficia Universidade Católica de Campinas, São Paulo. He attended the Centro de estudios franciscanos y pastorales para América Latina (CEFEPAL) in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro.
On January 10, 1988 he made his religious profession in the Order of the Capuchin Friars Minor and was ordained a priest on August 1, 1992.
Within the Capuchin Province of São Paulo he was Coordinator of the Pastoral, Vocation and Missionary Ministries (1996-2004). In 2004 he was sent as a missionary to Mexico, where he held the following positions: Vocation Promoter (2004-2011), Parochial Vicar of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in Yécora, Sonora (2004-2007); Novice Master (2007-2008); Post-Novitiate Director (2008-2013); Guardian of the San Pío de Pietrelcina Friary (2009-2013) and Parish Priest [Pastor] of Santísima Trinidad in Juárez, Nuevo León (2013).
In 2013, he returned to Brazil and was elected Provincial Minister of the Imaculada Conceição Capuchin Province based in São Paulo. From 2018 until now, he has served as General Councilor of the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor in Rome.
