On May 25, 2019, the Ordinary General Chapter of the Friars Minor Conventual elected Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI as the new Minister General of their religious family. The election took place at the Sacred Convent in Assisi.

Biographical Data

Friar Carlos Alberto TROVARELLI belongs to the religious “Rioplatense” Province of Saint Anthony of Padua in Argentina and Uruguay. He was born the son of Sante Amelio and Juana María BRIZ on June 21, 1962, in Cinco Saltos, Río Negro, Argentina.

He was baptized at the San Juan Bosco parish church in Cinco Saltos, in June of 1962, and received the Sacrament of Confirmation on November 4, 1972, in the same church, at the hands of the Most Reverend Miguel Angel ALEMÁN ESLAVA, S.D.B., Bishop of Río Gallegos, Argentina.

Friar Carlos entered the Order as a postulant on February 26, 1984, in the city of Moreno. He made his temporary profession on February 15, 1986, at the end of his novitiate year in the town of Fray Bentos, Uruguay.

He made his solemn profession on October 4, 1990, in the city of Saldán, Córdoba, Argentina and was ordained a priest on March 25, 1995, in his hometown of Cinco Saltos.

1992-1994 – Padua, Italy, Licentiate studies in Pastoral Liturgy.

1995 – Saldan, Córdoba, Argentina, as a formator.

1996-1997 – Buenos Aires, Argentina (Nuestra Señora de Las Gracias friary), Provincial Definitor and Secretary (1996-1999).

1998 – Montevideo, Uruguay, Novice Master.

2000-2003 – Montevideo, Uruguay, Provincial Definitor.

2004-2007 – San Carlos, Uruguay, Provincial Definitor.

2007-2015 – President of the Federación Conventuales América Latina (FALC)

2008-2011 – Buenos Aires, Argentina, Minister Provincial, first term.

2011-2015 – Buenos Aires, Argentina, Minister Provincial, second term.

2015-2019 – General Definitor and Assistant General for the FALC Federation.

Higher Studies

Friar Carlos completed the third year of Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Chemistry, at the National University of Comahue in Neuquén, Argentina (1981-1983).

He studied Philosophy and Theology at the Center for Philosophical and Theological Studies (CEFyT) in Villa Claret, Córdoba, Argentina (1986-1990). In 1991, he studied at both the San Miguel Faculty of Theology in San Miguel, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Diocesan Seminary of Morón in Hurlingham, Buenos Aires.

He graduated in Theology with a specialization in Pastoral Liturgy at the Institute of Pastoral Liturgy (Padua, Italy), which is affiliated with the Pontifical Atheneum of St. Anselm in Rome, Italy (1992-1994).
