Announcement of the Election of Pope Leo XIV

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost has been elected Supreme Pontiff, the 266th successor of Peter, and has chosen the name Leo XIV.
Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti made the solemn announcement to the Church and the world on thursday at 19:12 from the Loggia delle Benedizioni balcony of the Vatican Basilica.
The Conclave leading to the election of Pope Leo XIV had begun on Wednesday, May 07, 2025, in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace, with the extra omnes imparted at 17:46 by the Master of Papal Liturgical Celebrations, Msgr. Diego Giovanni Ravelli, after the oath taken by the 133 Cardinal Electors.
We join in the great joy at the election of the Church’s new pastor and Bishop of Rome, asking the Lord to accompany him in the ministry that has been entrusted to him.
As a Church, our task will be to pray for the Holy Father so that his mission will be fruitful in the midst of God’s people.
