Ninth Capuchin Family Day 2025
- Published in Other news items
This year’s Capuchin Family Day is celebrated in the context of the ordinary jubilee of the 2025th anniversary of the Incarnation, the 800th anniversary of St. Francis’ Canticle of the Creatures, and the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Capuchin Reform with Pope Clement VII’s oral approval to Br. Matteo da Bascio of his “forma vitae” as an itinerant preacher, even granting him the use of a special habit with a pointed hood. The reform, then, was confirmed on July 3, 1528, with the bull Religionis Zelus.
Therefore, we propose that the way to celebrate this year’s 9th Capuchin Family Day will be through a pilgrimage of the local Capuchin Family to a jubilee church, while meditating on being “pilgrims of hope” in the light of the Canticle of the Creatures and in the spirituality of our reform.
The General Curia is also organizing a pilgrimage and celebration in Rome on Friday, July 4, 2025. We will leave from Piazza Pia (beginning of Via della Conciliazione) at 7:30 a.m. and at 9:00 a.m. we will celebrate the Eucharist at the altar of the Cathedra in the Vatican Basilica with our General Minister Br. Roberto Genuin presiding. All the brothers who are in Rome or who can come are invited, as well as all the other religious men and women of the institutes connected with us and who with us form the great Capuchin family.
For organizational reasons, the Vatican requires to have the names of all pilgrims one month in advance in order to participate in the pilgrimage and Mass. Everyone will need to have some form of credential for us to provide them. Those who wish to participate are welcome and are asked to register by May 31st.
