A Stream of Grace for the Whole Church

“The Catholic Charismatic Renewal:

A Stream of Grace for the Whole Church”

Rome. On June 8 the Holy Father received in audience the participants of the International Conference of Leaders of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the official opening of Charis, the new service created at the request of the same Pontiff. This service is under the responsibility of a Moderator, assisted by a Council (International Service of Communion), consisting of 18 people from throughout the world, who represent the diverse reality of the Charismatic Renewal. The chief Moderator is Jean-Luc Moens, age 45, a layman, husband and father of a family. The first ecclesiastical assistant is Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, Capuchin and Preacher to the Papal Household.

The Holy Father wished that the Holy See itself would establish Charis, in order that the entire Charismatic Renewal and the whole Church, might know that this stream of grace fully pertains to the universal Church. The Pope then emphasized the importance of communion, unity amid diversity, ecumenism and solidarity with the poor.

At the closing of the conference, June 8th, in the Paul VI Audience Hall, Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, having been elected ecclesiastical assistant of the Renewal, gave a talk, the text of which we offer to you our confreres by the kind concession of the same Fr. Raniero – whom we thank very much.
