Intuitive understanding of Pentecost & the Holy Spirit

When I asked our brother Fra. Jaime Rey Ofm Cap to say something on the Holy Spirit his reply was the following:

“All of us leave something of us behind when we leave. The affective memory, affection, traces of love, gifts, remembrance and some imprints of our lives. One can name all of these as my remembrance and imprints. More than these we could understand the Holy Spirit as a personal experience of God and one feels His imprint, impression, traces and loving presence. Like this Jesus has left something for us to follow.

His impressions touch us, invite us to remember and brings again his inspiring memories. This Spirit is the impression and feel of Jesus that remains with us. It is more personal and strong. One feels that impulse within that which attracts and pushes forward to act with trust and hope. This impact inspires us not to give up on persons and situations that are not easy.

This is a Sacrament here that inspires us to love as He loved us, a force of creativity to go forward with confidence despite living a difficult reality.

It inspires to take risk and leave our security in God’s love and on his providence. Today many live in fear because they feel insecure without power, money, control and possession. But he who is ready to take risks following the Spirit will have new life.”

Holy Spirit gives us life and humanity when we need them badly. And therefore I cannot close myself in my egoistic world but have to go forward with the strength of Risen Jesus and have to love again without counting the result or cost. Placing my gaze on Him I have to walk more.

Pope Francis

Speaking during the Pentecost Feast Pope Francis gave this reflection. Without exception all of us facing difficult moments. Sometimes the painful situations don’t change the way we wanted. But the Holy Spirit gives us a new heart to have the resilience to go forward with trust. He is a living water that brings health, purifies and strengthens.

On the Feast day of Pentecost this year I went to St. Peter’s Basilica with two motives inside my heart:

One is to pray for various intentions and the second is to ask the Spirit’s help to rediscover the enthusiasm, optimism and the passion for life that sometimes disappears from the heart. Praying with Pope Francis was a strengthening moment and a recovery of the waning optimism.

Let us ask the Divine Fire to make us an instrument of his love and channels of integral optimism.
