Fraternity of St. Lawrence of Brindisi in Alamo, Texas, U.S.A.

A project with an eye towards the poor and the migrants

On 21 July 2025, the feast of St. Lawrence of Brindisi, a new fraternity called “Convento Camerino“, which becomes part of the St Lawrence of Brindisi International Fraternities project, was inaugurated. The Eucharist, held in St Joseph’s Chapel of the Capuchin Poor Clares in Alamo, Texas, was presided over by Mgr. Mario Avilés, C.O., Auxiliary Bishop of Brownsville.

This fraternity takes its name from the small town in the Marches region of Italy, site of the first friary of the Capuchin Reform in 1528, with the hope of living the spirit of ongoing conversion that inspired our founding brothers and saints.

The members who make up the local fraternity are Br. William Kraus, Br. Thomas Faiola, Br. Ángel Ríos García and Br. Nikolas Barth, coming from different parts of the United States and Mexico. The celebrations were also attended by Brothers from Rome, Mexico City, California, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Fort Worth and Monterrey, together with the Capuchin Poor Clares who played host, Lumen Christi Missionary Catechists and people connected with the Brothers of the Alamo community. After Mass in the chapel of our Capuchin sisters, the celebrations moved to the Convento Camerino for the blessing of the new friary by Br. Aldo Fabricio Muñoz Martínez, Custos of the Custody of Mexico-Texas. The participants then enjoyed a simple and warm reception, which provided the local fraternity with much enthusiasm to embark on this new adventure. Aware of the flexibility required of any new religious community, we dare to hope that the brothers involved will be able to respond to the needs of the local Church with an eye towards the poor and marginalised, especially the migrants. The brothers involved in this new fraternity expressed themselves as follows: “our life is meant to be a simple testimony for those around us to God’s gracious love revealed most fully in the gift of His Incarnate Son, Jesus Christ”.

Let us pray for our brothers so that they may live according to the Rule and Testament of St Francis and our Constitutions, embodying the pillars of our life: prayer, fraternity, minority and mission.

We present the logo of the Fraternities of St. Lawrence of Brindisi.

It represents the world in which we all live and where we are all brothers and sisters. The TAU-shaped continent symbolizes the international nature of the San Lorenzo project.

It represents our brothers and sisters from different cultures, histories, and places who are involved in the project and live the charismatic values of the Capuchins. The flame is the symbol of the motto that underpins the Fraternities of St. Lawrence of Brindisi project: “Let us rekindle the flame of our charism.”

The base of the logo is shaped like wings supporting everything else, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, who for Francis is the Minister General who guides and animates the life and work of the fraternity.

The St. Lawrence of Brindisi Projectof the Capuchin Friars Minor

The St. Lawrence of Brindisi Fraternities–which untilrecently were referred to as Project Europe – have ahistory. These fraternities did not come into beingovernight, nor were they the result of some arbitrarydecision handed down “from on high.” Rather, they were the resultof meetings which produced in the brothers a growing desire to “fan– together – the flame of our charism.”More than a decade ago, numerous factors contributed to thelaunching of this initiative. Undoubtedly first of all, should bementioned the impact of the December 8, 2008 circular letter of Br.Mauro Jöhri, General Minister, entitled Let us fan the flame of ourcharism!Many gladly welcomed this strong appeal as an invitation totake up the challenge “in a spirit of fraternity and an atmosphere ofcommunion”

Formation Meeting 2025 – St. Lawrence of Brindisi Fraternities

Information and registration

Following up on the communication of last March announcing the formation and animation meeting for St. Lawrence Fraternities, we hereby provide the detailed agenda for the meeting, renewing the invitation to participate.

Dates: September 08 – 13, 2025 (arrival 8^th in the afternoon; departure 13^th in the morning),
Where: Foligno – Oasi San Francesco (Via Colle Cappuccini, 10 – Foligno).
Who: friars of the St. Lawrence Fraternities in Europe, their major superiors and all other friars who wish to learn about this experience.
