Capuchin Gathering at WYD in Lisbon

A showcase to make known the Order and its call to brotherhood. This is a fine description of the first meeting of Franciscan friars and young people with the General Minister at World Youth Day (WYD) held in Lisbon, Portugal. The meeting, which brought together some 67 friars from around the world and more than 200 young people that accompanied them, took place on Tuesday, August 01, 2023, in St. Paul's Church, the site where Br. Lawrence of Brindisi embraced Sr. Death on July 22, 1619.

During the meeting, the participants entering the church in procession with various religious symbols, took the opportunity to pray together in different languages, meditate on the passage from the Gospel of Luke on the "hurry of Mary", listen to the story of San Lorenzo da Brindisi and interact with the Minister General, fra Roberto Genuin through questions and answers on various themes of our Franciscan charism. This first meeting, which concluded with a blessing imparted by the Minister General, was, for the friars present, a new "showcase" to show the world that we are a family despite coming from different realities, from different cultures and different fraternities .
